The latest media talking point: "America is a center-right country." Really?I don't think so. This is just more desperate spin spewed by fearful right-wing pundits. Same as the "socialist" and "marxist" and "terrorist pal" crapola. People have been brainwashed by right wing media clowns like Rush and the Faux News Channel who have demonized the word "liberal." Why can't they just accept that most Americans DO want progressive solutions - universal healthcare, higher minimum wage, better public education, environmental protection.
It's not like we are expecting government to solve all of our problems, it's just that the playing field has been tilted SO far against us (because of a failed conservative ideology) we now want some government action. Tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation does not work. The majority of American voters have rejected the right wing ideology. Someone once said "ideas have consequences."
Thanks to the "small d's": an engaged grass-roots base of community organizers, millions of volunteers, over 2 million small donors- these are the people who helped elect Barack Obama, overcoming the forces of money and power that have been in the way of real change. If we were such a center-right country, then why did the Republicans need to use dirty tricks to try to get elected, while the Dems won on the issues?

On the center-right myth:
I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative. It comes from my mom.

That's not to say I'm against paying all taxes...but I'd like to see some restraint at times.
I have no problem with paying slightly higher taxes if the money is put toward transportation infrastucture (which results in economic growth) and universal healthcare, and better public education. I believe that most Europeans pay higher taxes than we do. I don't think there is any research that proves there is a correlation between lower taxes and economic growth.
Don't forget, "Maverick" (or was that "Sidekick") John McCain took 21 red states and most of them by hefty double digit margins. So the Wrong Right is still out there. Lurking. Sulking. Plotting.
But our Barack Obama took 29 states. And the District of Columbia. So yeah, we've definitely "hung a louie" here in the good old US of A.

Bravo for Chuck Hagel who said, according to CNN:
"We are educated by the great entertainers like Rush Limbaugh," Hagel said Tuesday during a speech in Washington, according to the Huffington Post.
"You know, I wish Rush Limbaugh and others like that would run for office," a sarcastic Hagel continued. "They have so much to contribute and so much leadership and they have an answer for everything. And they would be elected overwhelmingly. [The truth is] they try to rip everyone down and make fools of everybody but they don't have any answers."
