More of My Art Work

I will be back soon with a post about Allentown. My son and I are both sick with a virus. The first piece is called "Gina Goes Dutch" and it's a mixed media/watercolor. The second piece is a large oil painting with glitter added called "Cousins." From 1986/87.

The second one reminds me of The Wizard of Oz.

AJ,

It's the right time period, 1930's.
I worked from an old photo and made a xerox of it, and then tried to paint like the xerox. I couldn't resist glitzing it up a little. I'm sure these old Sicilian gals(one is my aunt) would not mind that.

"Gina.." gives me the feel of Art Deco (partly what she is wearing, and the color choice). "Cousins" gives me a nostalgic feel. It feels like I'm looking through my grandmother's photo box, and reminiscing with company. Both very well done!

Thanks Z,

Gina is actually 50's actress Gina Lolabrigida from LIFE magazine cover. She is wearing a picture of a piece of cake (look closely)and pink puffy paint.
She is surrounded by PA Dutch symbols. It's interesting that you get an art deco feel. I think that could also be because of the subject matter and pose.

It's hard to get the full impact from a blog picture. Wish I could open a real gallery! Allentown could sure use one.
