A lot of the Russian Jews who came here were stage performers, writers, comedians. Odessa was a center for the arts, a Russian or Ukrainian port city I believe.
@aol.coma.j, the nightclub was like going back to the 50's, or at least how i image a nightclub was then. the patrons and whole neighborhood is now jews who migrated from russia and ukraine. they actually are quite secular, they sell pork products in their deli's, which are interesting. the boardwalk, which previously was depressed, is now occupied with restaurants which put out tables with tablecloths, etc., that reminded me of atlantic city in the 50's, which i do remember. dottie, i don't know about how many entertainers there are, but if the truth be told there supposedly is a russian mafia
