I'm so glad the election is over and that it turned out so well. There was much celebrating last night!

I thought Obama's speech was really outstanding, and well worth staying up for. McCain's words sounded a lot more honest than anything I had heard him say during his campaign. Makes me think that he was over-handled. So glad Obama took the high road throughout all of this and stressed how this is "our America." It was so inspiring to see so many people come together in Chicago. Wow. I think our 7 yr. old son is realizing what an important time this is, and I know he will always remember this election. He woke up this morning asking "did he take Indiana?"
He has been so interested, even in the local races. I am disappointed that Morganelli did not win as AG.

Yes, Obama and McCain gave great speeches. I agree that McCain seemed more genuine last night than in a long while. It's a shame.

I was really impressed that Obama took Florida and Indiana, too. I'm so glad that the results were in last night and we didn't have to wait through any recounts or court decisions to find out the winner.

I think what's really significant is that when you look at the electoral map, there is blue across the country. Very impressive.

Hello! I'm from Romania (that's in SE Europe) and found out with surprise that the new U.S. president is Barack Obama. I'm very curious how he was elected. I am not racist. On the contrary. But I want to know what has caused the American people to vote a person of color. I would appreciate if you answer my question. Good day!

To be honest, Dottie, I am hoping that for every tear streaked face, sign waving, and voice bellowing person that claims to have wanted to be apart of this CHANGE, they actually do make a CHANGE and get involved with their community. I had a lady come and hug me and kiss me on the cheek and say, " Great things are coming" and she was surprised when I said, "That's what they say."
If people don't take responsibility for their lives and do what THEY need to do to make it better for their children and their children's children and expect OBAMA to just wave a magic wand and make things better, I believe they are in for a rude awakening.
I have always been proud to be a Black man and with Obama's win I hope everyone of ALL nationalities can stand a little bit taller and walk with pride, but if they believe that their lives and this country will become better without them putting in the work, all of the cheering, dancing, and celebrating was, in comparison, no better than us being at the Phillies World Series game.

Alfonso,

I think Obama has the qualities of a great leader, a role model for kids. He is taking it to the people and asking them to do their part, get involved. He was able to rally so many people to vote, I am hopeful that he can rally them to "do for their country." But you are right, it comes down to personal responsibility. I think the tears and emotions are honest and go much deeper than being at a Phillie's game. I know a lot of people are skeptical, or they may see Obama as a cult leader, or think his supporters are "zealots."
But I think it's great to feel good and hopeful about his presidency, and to express that.

He was the best qualified, with the best ideas, and he ran a great campaign.

I'm with you on this, Alfonso. After 9/11, President Bush asked that we "go shopping." President Obama will be asking us all to embrace the concept of sacrifice and making some significant changes in how we all think and act about a lot of things. And that's where Obama's leadership qualities and ability to inspire and motivate will lead the way. Kennedy had that. FDR had that. Reagan had that. I can see America going from worst to first. From worst President ever (W) to best President (Barack), because Americans will answer his call and follow his lead. I know I will. And I know you will too. It's a new day in America, and, to your point, it's a Work Day.

Hi Cristi, in America, we're just as fed up with jingoistic white cowboy warmongers as you are.

It's time for a U.S. President with a brain, a heart, and some soul brother.
