Allentown's Mayfair Festival of the Arts seemed to us to be another big success this year. We had a great time. Gianni had fun painting the huge and colorful mural created by our good friend and fellow Chen artist, Ro Geseck. And Bill and I had fun sharing some giggles w/ Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski over how everything in Allentown has been "falling apart" (wink wink) since he was elected (according to the "fair & balanced" local NeoCon blahgs, that is).
Even in tight economic times, people still love to attend outdoor family festivals. The weather on Monday was perfect for watching local legends The Daddy Licks Band who drew a large and loyal and loud (and dancing!) crowd to the Cabaret Main Stage to close out the festival as the headliners. Bill (Mr. Dottie) was The Daddy Licks Band's promo-driver manager back in the 1980s. In July 2006, The Villas organized (and opened for) the Daddy Licks Band's "Scott Hott Benefit/Reunion Show" at The Sterling Hotel in Downtown Allentown and the "DLB" guys had so much fun playing together again (after a nearly 15 year hiatus) they decided to reunite permanently! "Look for a full-length CD of all new Daddy Licks songs later this year," says DLB manager Bob Mania (wink wink) a.k.a. Mr. Dottie.
Mayfair is such a great place to reconnect with old (and current) friends, and fellow musicians, and if we listed everyone who gave us bear hugs and well-wishes yesterday I know we'd forget some, so thank you, to everyone who gave us all that much-appreciated warmth, and w/ a very special thanks to Judge Edward Reibman.
We know Mayfair has had its problems in the past, but we hope the festival can continue to be a success, even though it now has competition from The Iron Pigs, and the Sands Casino. Charging a small entrance fee has helped the festival get through financial difficulties. We don't mind paying $4 for the entire festival. That's less than a dollar a day. And what we like best about Mayfair is that it showcases local talent which we have in abundance in Allentown and the Lehigh Valley. So Rock On, Mayfair!

Morning Call might eventually fix their headline typo (It it time to expand?) and they keep calling exec dir Terry Glennon, Terry "Gannon." Ha! Where's that Watchdog Reporter when you need him!
No editors at "the call" today? Surely not everyone is boxing up their belongings at the "newspaper" and heading for the door :)
The Moving Wall was awesome and moving.
Kranzley's moving and that's awesome (kudos).
Anon 10:38, I noticed those errors in the MC article too. Wow, pretty obvious. They don't even care enough to proofread.
While we were at Mayfair we also looked at the plans for the new park renovations, which include a really cool interactive playground for the kids. They had some of the equipment there to try out, and it looked like great exercise and a lot of fun.
"MC ... They don't even care enough to proofread."
Maybe all the adorable cub pooch reporters and editors are helping Glenn Kranzley pack?
"Mr. and Mrs. Dottie," I really enjoy reading your blog. Great topics, well written. And even when I disagree w/ you (which is rare), I always enjoy learning about your and Bill's point of view.
This entry is a perfect example. While leading w/ the wonderful event Mayfair was again this year, you also manage to get your point of view across regarding the pathetic Morning Call "newspaper" (wink wink) and that goofy (and now unemployed) mule Glenn Kranzley.
I cannot in my worst nightmare fathom going through what you and Bill are going through, and I have no idea what I would do in your shoes. I hope your approach of taking on "the bad guys" head-on is as satisfying to you as it is to those of us who are pridefully watching you and cheering you on every step of the way.
If your reader numbers/hits are up, then your approach is gathering admirers and that's great. Blognet ratings are highly accurate - much more so than sitemeters which can be easily gamed.
Continued good luck to you and your family.
Just read anon 3:21's "post." You just gained a supporter Mr. Villa. You probably don't need any :) but I'm w/ you all the way just the same.
Morning Call STILL hasn't fixed their headline typo ("It it time to expand?") or Terry Glennon's incorrect name (the "newspaper" is calling him Terry "Gannon"). What boobs.
Betcha Glenn Kranzley is telling them to NOT fix those errors. Stubborn mule Kranzley won't do anything the Villas or this blog politely asks him to do, like grant a "Welcome Mat" meeting, or get rid of the hispanic racism at his beloved Forum. Being an unreasonable (and lying) "contrarian" is what got Glenno fired, so let him have his typo fun today, he'll be gone (for good) real soon.
5 out of 11 posts about Kranzley leaving the Morning Call? Why would you allow such off-topic commentary? What's that got to do with Mayfair?
Anon 6:46, in all dew respect, Glenn Kranzley didn't "leave" the "newspaper," Glenno got fired. We say bravo to that and we have 227 good reasons for celebrating Glenno's ex-termination (not a threat). And, obviously, our readers are very passionate about the subject too, so we're letting them rant "OT" about it.
What's it to you, buttinsky?
Mind your own business.
Or bring it up at "KvetchFest."
Thank You, anons 3:21 and 5:26, it's great to have nice people like you following us through LVS.
The corn dogs at Mayfair are the best!!!
If/when the "newspaper" ever gets around to fixing that Mayfair headline typo and Terry Glennon's name, maybe they can also report the truth that a jury found O'Malley's bar in Allentown negligent in the death of Sheena Villa.
Sadly, I don't believe there's a snowball's chance in hell that The Morning Call will correct their purposeful omission of that fact. They're pricks like that, right Glenn?
It was Mike Miorelli who made sure that item didn't get in, or, get "out," I should say.
That's what I've been told.
Assistant Managing Editor Mike Miorelli is also the guy who could have covered it in the "Corrections & Clarifications" section of the "newspaper."
But apparently he opted not to.
I had a really nice time at Mayfair yesterday.
RE: "Why would you allow such off-topic commentary?"
1.Because it's our blog and we can do what we want, buttinsky.
2.Why so judgeMENTAL?
Back to Mayfair, Jo Jo, we got a great deal on corn dogs while they were closing down the event last night, and someone gave me their extra tickets!
I'm very disappointed in Mike Miorelli. He coached my son in baseball last year and I thought he was a good man but I was obviously wrong. Mike is obviously just as caught up in "keeping a lid" on things and protecting cronies as Kranzley was. He deserves the same fate. I hope THE TRIBUNE COMPANY sees how their floundering Morning Call is being run by men who behave like middle-schoolers would do on myspace. That newspaper needs a complete and thorough house cleaning. Sorry Mike, but this means you've got to go too.
Bill & Angie (from your last column,"Appeal For Justice") I am very eager to know what the Lehigh County Commissioners Chief Clerk finds out in his or her research into "Debbie Garlicki's New Job" in DA Jim Martin's office and whether or not that "P.R" plum job was created especially for Ms. Garlicki, who for years pulled her punches on Mr. Martin as The Morning Call's court reporter. Quid pro quo? Or is that Pay To Play? Very eager to find out....
I see The Morning Call still hasn't fixed its Mayfair headline typo or corrected their "Terry Gannon" errors.
These people just cannot admit a mistake, can they?
Anon 7:53, we agree, Mike Miorelli should be fired by the Tribune Company ASAP and we're on it.
"Concerned," we're eager to find out as well and we'll have a full report here, and it'll be an exclusive, of course, since all the other local (United NeoCon) blogs are ignoring (wink wink) this story and anything that could (and will) result in Morning Callers past and present, and DA Jim Martin, getting the well-deserved boot. Stay tuned to LVS ...
That comment about Mike Miorelli was perfectly aimed. They are liars at that newspaper. I'm thrilled that they have you as their relentlessly-approaching exposer enemy, Bill. I too had a wonderful time at Mayfair on Monday and it was great seeing you and Angel again.
Is O'Malley's a Morning Call advertiser, by anyn chance?
I'm sure Miorelli was a lousy coach.
"KvetchFest" Kountdown Klock!
MIKE MOLOVINSKY says, in all do respect your mistaken BUT ...
ONLY > 3 DAYS to "KvetchFest!"
The "newspaper" still hasn't corrected the comically glaring errors in its Mayfair article. I'll take this as their acknowledgment that they know nobody's reading The Morning Call online-- except for the Glenn Kranzley-allowed latino bashers at the Forum ("If ya ain't Dutch, ya ain't much," right Glenn?)
Anon 10:43, very excellent question that deserves to be answered, we're on it.
Anon 4:10, I can't comment on Mike Miorelli's coaching skills but I do know that as an editor he's either asleep at the wheel or a prick or both.
"3%," we're counting down the days to KvetchFest too! We're so excited!
