How about ...

* The Ritz Barbeque
* The Brass Rail
* Yocco's
* Willy-Joe's
* Sewards Steak Shop

I ate at Willy Joe's yesterday. My girlfriend loves that place!

I'm not a big fan of Yocco's though.

Those all seem like great suggestions. I'll be doing a Nazareth review this week of a hot new Brazilian steakhouse.

aj,

I prefer Willy Joe's. They have steamed clams too at Lehigh St. location.

Review the Sunday Brunch at the allentown Brew works. I hear they have decent omelets and eggs Benedict

I suggest: Bubba's in Quakertown,
Federal Grill in Allentown, and Edge in Bethlehem. We'd love to see you post regular comments on our site as well... NotCookingTonight.com. We can set you up with a username and password and you can share your reviews with nearly 2000 restaurant goers per month!

Leena,

Maybe I should make this a review of an Allentown tradition or icon
I'm leaning toward The Brass Rail!

BernO,

You're just way more sophisticated and multicultural than moi! ;}

Thanks Michelle,

I'm just doin this for fun, I really don't dine out too often, but thanks for the link and I will check it out.

CC,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard about the brunch at ABW and want to try it. There are very few places for brunch in Allentown. The Shanty used to be good but they closed a while ago.

I've always wanted to do a hot dog review of the Lehigh Valley, but my diet prohibits it currently, lol.

Willy-Joes (which I strongly prefer to Yocco's) recently (and recklessly, I believe) changed its bun and for me changed the whole balance of the Willy-Joe's experience. The new bun is too puffy, fleshy, and it really gets in the way of the dog. Overpowers it. In my opinion. I wish they'd go back to their prior bun.

I go back to the old days of Willy-Joe's, when they still had a cast iron grill and husband and wife Willy and Joe were still there and when you entered the place, Joe (the wife) would take your doggie order by sorta yelling, "WHAT'S YOURS?!"

Several years ago, I made a New Year's Resolution that all my Willy-Joe's dogs would be cheese dogs and I stuck to it.

Anything but the dreaded Chains!
Maybe some cozy hole-in-the-wall places:
La Mexicana,
Aci-Halal - Turkish restaurant on Front Street,
Liberty Lunch, etc.

Or reminisce on restaurants/pubs long gone:
Canon's (deep sigh)
Beers from Around the World - famous Pastrami Sandwich
Brass Rail (Hamilton Street)
Saylor's Diner

Anon,

I like those "cozy hole-in-the wall places" too. They have some character and don't cater to the trend of the moment. I do miss Cannon's and Saylor's. Thanks for the suggestions.

... just had 2 Willy-Joe dogs at the Lehigh Street store. Geez those dough-y new buns are bad. Still better than a burnt bitter Yocco's dog though ...

I ate at Willy Joes on Saturday and no complaints here. Good price and decent food. I've only been there a couple times so I'm not sure about the bun issue, lol.

I usually go to Jimmy's in Easton. They have good dogs. They're also a lot closer to my house.

Yocco's is overpriced and doesn't taste all that great. I'm surprised so many people enjoy that place.

I remember Willy Joe's. I went to Jackson School in the '60s, which is right near Willy Joe's. A lot of kids would sneak over there for lunch, even though they weren't allowed to. (I never went; I was a good kid.)

Yocco's has no flavor. I don't know why they call themselves "Hot Dog King." People flock there like lemmings because it's an icon.(Sorry Yocco's fans!)

I might review one of the downtown restaurants like House of Chen, which is struggling due to the bus route changes. I'd like to do what I can to help them out. Their food tastes great and is a great value.

Two Words re: Great Dog: TOBY'S CUP. In P-Burg. Wonderful, terrific dog. Deep fried. Served with a pickle. Dee-lish. Just don't ask for cheese (or ketchup) or they'll yell and kick you out. Toby's Cup proprietor and hot dog sidekicks are Yankees fans which is an added bonus for me ...

Thanks for all the great hot-dog reviews! I hope all the vegetarians out there will come back.

A.J. Cordi said...

The vegetarians don't know what they're missing! LOL!

I hope the Lehigh Valley gets a Nathan's one day.

Stahley's Cellerette on Hanover Ave!

Mrs. Dottie said...

Stahley's, a great place for clams at a resonable price. Haven't been there in a while. I used to live on the east side before I got married.

A.J. Cordi said...

Is that the place that opens real early for Keg & Eggs? Sort-a near or in Bethlehem?

Oh God, Stahley's...great black diamond steak if you can stomach the drunk a-holes. Last time I was there, some drunk (12 noon) wanted to beat up my 76 year old mom!!!

you should review
Cali Burrito or Damascus
