Thanks to the gutsiness of some freshman senators, a movement has begun to urge Senate Democratic House Majority Leader Harry Reid to reinsert the public option into the Health Care Reform Package, and pass the bill under House budget reconciliation rules. Reconciliation is a procedure that would allow a simple up or down vote with a majority of 51 Senators. There is NO filibuster allowed with reconciliation. These gutsy senators are Jared Polis (D-Colo) in photo left, Chelli Pingree (D-Maine) and Michael Bennet(D-Colo). They did not "run for the hills" in the aftermath of the Scott Brown debacle in Mass. They wrote a letter to Harry Reid, and so far 14 senators have signed on, and 40 have pledged support.
Even if there are not enough votes for a public option, an alternative would be to pass a Medicare buy-in which would allow people age 55+ to buy into a public plan. This idea was killed by douchebag senator Joe Lieberman(I-CT) who said he would filibuster any bill that included an expansion of Medicare. Well, sorry Joe, you cannot filibuster under reconciliation rules. So, come on Dems, let's get this done now. Polls have shown that the majority of Americans want to be able to choose a public option, which would lower costs for consumers. The recent 39% rate hike by Anthem BlueCross persuaded CA Senator Dianne Feinstein to sign on for real reform, and urge Harry Reid to include the public option. SCHIP, which is a really great government run healthcare insurance plan for kids, and a major health care reform bill, was passed through the House reconciliation process. So it is possible.

Democrats can get this done since they are the majority. Don't run for the hills wearing wet panties. Get this done NOW for the people.

I always wondered what Joe Lieberman's problem was, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Now I know-- he's a douche-bag (so obvious in hindsight!) dunno how I missed this (?) thanks LVS!
Happy to help ...
I heard on Maddow last night that Republicon Senator Orrin Hatch, and some other R's helped write legislation for a public option back when Hillary Clinton was working on HCR. Now Hatch, and all Republicons are against a public option. They want to make sure Obama fails, they don't care about the people. Charlie Dent voted for SCHIP. But under Obama, he is an obstructionist like the rest of the Republicon hypocrites.
I am sorry I voted for Dent. Never again.
I won't vote for Charlie again either. I'm very disappointed with how he's going along with GOP "NO" strategies. Charlie's done some good things in the past for his constituents and he's definitely not a douche bag like Joe Lieberman. But sadly, he's got to go.
Anon 12:17, yeah, I always thought of Dent as more of a moderate, and a good guy. He is supportive of local arts and seems to care about his constituents. I've gotten several phone calls from him asking me to come to his townhall meetings.
Option means choice, not govt. takeover, or "Obamacare". Most people will keep the coverage they already have, but costs will be lowered so everyone can be covered. And self-employed people will be able to afford coverage.Right now there is no regulation on the highly profitable insurance industry, while high premiums are bankrupting middle class people, thousands are dying because of lack of coverage, and the insurance company CEO's make billions. It's a crisis and real reform needs to be done now.The status-quo is unacceptable. The Republicons are playing politics with the lives of Americans. Why don't the facts mean anything to these people?
Its time for American politicians to hold themselves accountable for the civil liberties of thier constituents. Charlie Dent has fooled alot of people. He has flip flopped evertime the popular tide seems to be changing and like most of his colleagues, he is more worried about the next election than the next generation. How are we ever going to sustain prosperity when we dont have the health or the education to better ourselves.
Now we just need to keep the dems on track, and not let them get stonewalled by the racist-right (i mean wrong) who are hell bent on making healthcare "Obama's waterloo".
As for Lieberman, is anyone really that surprised about Jumpin' Joe?? Just one more good reason to institute federal term limits.
"Why don't the facts mean anything to these people?"
Hi, I'm a LV blogosphere regular (new to this blog) and I am not familiar w/ the term "facts," what does this word mean, is it importnt, can you explain? Thanks.
"Now we just need to keep the dems on track, and not let them get stonewalled by the racist-right (i mean wrong) who are hell bent on making healthcare "Obama's waterloo"."
Pand, Obama was elected by the people to get things done for the people. I don't think those obstructionist R's and ConservaDems are going to be re-elected if they continue to say "NO" to everything Obama wants to do. But we have to make sure more Dems, like those freshman Dems from Colorado, get elected.
1:49, "facts" make most local blogosphere readers glaze over. That's why you see so few of them, except for this blog, where we specialize in them. Sometimes facts are uncivil, and inconvenient. But we believe they must be dealt w/ . Thanks for asking and we applaud your adventurous curiosity.
