Boycott Advertisers of Right Wing Hate

Where is the moral compass of the advertisers who are supporting Fox News and its hate speech? The unfair and unbalanced right wing media has created a dangerous climate in this country which has fueled an increase in violent racist hate crimes, hatred towards our President, and fear of a liberal government.

Voices on the right, like loudmouths Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck constantly cross the line, spewing hate and anger without taking into consideration how this kind of vitriol might impact public thought. It is disturbing how many people will believe the Fox "News" propaganda as truth, because they really think Fox News is a reliable and trustworthy source for news.

Here in the Lehigh Valley, our local news media leans very heavily toward the right wingnut variety, with right-wing talk shows on WAEB all day. We have heard professional people we know casually and hopefully discussing the possibility of our President being assassinated by southeners, as if that would be not such a bad thing. It is unsettling when I walk into my bank and I am bombarded with Fox News on all their TV screens. Get me outta here!

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights organization that tracks hate crimes, reports that participation in hate groups in America has risen over 50% since 2000. According to the report:

"It attributed that growth mainly to fears about non-white immigration, but pointed out that the rise of a black man to the White House also appears to have contributed. And it said the ongoing economic meltdown, which some have already blamed on racial minorities and undocumented Latino immigrants, could well add to a worsening situation."

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?

After enduring eight years in the Dark Ages led by a President who had trouble putting a sentence together and couldn't care less about equal rights, we finally have an intelligent, diplomatic, charismatic, capable, and respectable leader in the White House who has to clean up the disastrous mess left by the previous failed administration and move us forward. And the leader of the Republican Party, radio host Rush Limbaugh, hopes that our President fails. Nice.

Our local "newspaper" endorses hate by allowing racist and homophobic comments at its website online Forum, and this creates a dangerous climate that is bad for our community. And then there's our overwhelmingly NeoCon local blahgassmear that our "newspaper" links to.

Shame on The Morning Call and Fox News advertisers for endorsing hatred and violence toward liberals, our President, and our government. Boycott the advertisers at Fox News, and at our local "newspaper." Here's a list of Fox advertisers: http://www.debone.com/boycottFoxNewsSponsors.html

And here's a blog that makes it easy for you to send e-mails to companies:

Get Outta the Way of My Optimism

Our mostly conservative local blah, blah, blahgosphere seems infested with negative doom and gloom and misinformation. Allentown is doomed! It's because there is no leadership! Stimulus is bad! Pay to play! Failing schools! Crime! Stores closing! And anyone with a positive outlook is labeled a "cheerleader" "an apologist for the mayor" or just a clueless moron. And if that person wants to write about the good things going on, and there really ARE good things, then they are deemed a "puff blogger." Or if you are excited about Obama, our first African American President, you are labeled as a "Messiah worshipper" who has drunk the kool-aid. Well, all I can say to that is get outta the way of my optimism!

Most people's perception of Hamilton St. is way off. Actually, you CAN really walk around at 7th and Hamilton when it is dark. It's not that scary. Usually there are not too many people around. In fact, if more people would actually walk around downtown at night then THAT would help reduce crime. We patronize the downtown establishments as much as we can. And we have even been to events on 7th St. at night! Ooohhhh, scary! ;0

I am all for constructive criticism, but constant negativity and smears against good people are harmful to a community and does nothing to help move Allentown forward. People who take action and volunteer to help their community should be applauded, not smeared. So, blah blah blahggers, get the hell outta the way of my optimism and go back to your caves or trees where you can sniper fire from afar. Or just stay at your own blahgs where you can blow smoke up each other's behinds.

We are in a serious economic crisis, and our President has reached out across the aisle in a truly bi-partisan way. But yet it's not "real bi-partisanship" to some Republicans. I believe that these Republicans are robotic obstructionists. And obstruction is what they are good at, not governing. The past 8 years proves that. They put political ideology before the needs of the American people, and that's wrong. I say, they had their chance, now it's time for them to get outta the way and let the President that WE the people elected do his job. And if you still wanna hate me simply because I am a liberal, even though I have extended a hand to you, then all I can say is get outta my way.

Blogging and community

I don't like to write about blogging, but today I feel the urge, so I am going with it. I think having a blog has really helped to get some really positive things happening in Allentown. For one, the exciting Allentown Chen-Arts group would not have formed if it was not for this blog, and people reaching out to each other through their blogs. Blogging has helped me to meet and connect with so many different people. I think it is similar to an art form because it is a reaction to the MSM, just like artists react to their world. We are communicating and learning from one another. Each of us has his/her own style.

LV Somebody has provided a forum for discussing important issues. It has been a place for opinion, as well as fact. It has shed light on issues that the MSM does not cover. It has been a place for public information regarding events and happenings. It has been a place I can showcase my art work, and the work of others. It's a place to be creative and have fun. A place to express our concerns. Expression is good.
I try my best to keep the discussion civil. I try to be open to opinions that may be different than my own. I try to see other people's points of view, because I realize not everybody is like me. What a boring world that would be. I think there have been some very informative, and important discussions here. I think a good debate is healthy and educational, as long as it doesn't turn nasty and mean.

Which brings me to this. What has been bothering me lately is how some people label others as "naysayers." I think that being a critic and raising questions, dissecting and investigating an issue, pointing out another side to an issue are all good things. It's educational, if you are open-minded enough to listen without getting immediately defensive. Questioning the motives of our leaders is good. And shouldn't our elected officials take responsibility for their decisions? Shouldn't they act in the best interest of the community? I can see how both dems and r's can be divisive on certain issues, and sometimes we just have to agree to disagree. But we don't have to be disagreeable. We don't have to take nasty shots at people. Let's be ladies and gentlemen.
So what do you think about the local blogosphere?
