Racism at Philly Pool

Reading this unbelievable news has made me feel like I am living in America circa 1869 rather than 2009. Valley Swim Club in Philadelphia was paid $1,900.00 by Creative Steps Day Camp to use its pool, but when the creative campers arrived at the pool, all the white kids who were swimming there immediately exited the pool, and the black campers who had just arrived were told they had to leave. One camper overheard a parent at the pool say, "What are all these black kids doing here? I am scared they might do something to my child." John Duesler, the president of the Club said, "There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion of the club."

Read Article Here.

What a bummer to read about this, after hearing the exciting news about PA Representative Patrick Murphy (D) standing up and taking the lead on getting rid of the absurd "don't ask don't tell" policy in the military to move us toward real equality for gays.

This Philly pool incident just reminds me of how far we still have to go for true equality for all Americans in America.

Melissa Harris Lacewell makes this point:

"I hate that these young people will never forget the summer of 2009 because while their black President was addressing health care, and their Latina judge was being confirmed to the Supreme Court, they were being turned away from the white people's pool."

Sadly, we're seeing the same kind of racist hate here in Allentown with the opposition (by just few, thankfully) to the new "Destination Playground" at Cedar Beach Pool. While the several whining opponents hide behind this playground's alleged "prohibitive cost in these tough economic times," they alternately suggest putting a new Destination Playground "in the inner city" ... where it will cost ... less to build? Possibly? Obviously, they don't want to drive past Cedar Beach (on their way to South Whitehall Township) and have to wonder, "Hmm, what are all these black and latino kids doing out here at Cedar Beach?"

"What we really need is more supervised playgrounds and basketball courts in center city."

Basketball courts. But of course. The negroes are really good at basketball. Operative word: "SUPERVISED."

"John Duesler, the president of the Club said, "There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion of the club."

Wow. Duesler didn't even try to "code" his racism.

FYI, here's an example of "coded" racism ...

Dotties, have you ever visited the local "Klan Rally" known as The Allentown Commentator blog? It's a fave hangout of Allentown School Board members spewing hate about President Obama. The "author" referenced by the previous 3 commenters is setting the latinos straight over there, can you imagine this knuckle-scraper getting 3% of the vote for mayor of A-Town in the '05 election, geez.

Bill Villa said...

Just incredible. And to think that Molovinsky is an "insider access" advisor to Allentown City Council VP (for now) Mike Donovan. It boggles the mind.

I can, it's the "hate speech" commenters from the MC Forum who voted for him

Thanks for the link anon 5:40, I read that article about racist comments aimed at the Obama girls. It is really disgusting.
It is a must read. The racists seem to be emboldened. I cannot believe the comments that are allowed at our newspaper's forum.

I have previously brought up the racism at the Allentown Commentator and at the MC forum. A commenter at the Harris Lacewell article I link to in my post brings up the point that not one white parent spoke out against the racist parents at the swim club. Why aren't more people speaking out locally to bring this issue to the forefront?
Elected officials just stand by as well. If you ignore it, it does not go away.

"I cannot believe the comments that are allowed at our newspaper's forum. Why aren't more people speaking out ... Elected officials just stand by as well."

It's because "Hate Sells."

According to Morning Call "newspaper" "columnist" Bill White as quoted in the above-linked blog post:

"The tremendous traffic on our Web site is a selling point for advertisers and future subscribers. And the comments, warts and all [LVS Note: i.e., racism, anti-Semitism, misogyny, homophobia, Latino bashing, white power rants, etc., etc.] attract a lot of those clicks." -Bill White

There was a time when healthy local blogosphere dissent against The Morning Call "newspaper" was running righteously rampant and free. This was not good for The Morning Call mother ship. So Glenn Kranzley had an idea: "Valley Blogosphere." Diabolically, elite and "honored" membership in "Valley Blogosphere" and "Blogger Tuesday" immediately converted formerly outspoken Morning Call critics and local blogger "Watch Dogs" (and Villas justice mission supporters) into "celebrity" aquiver Lap Dogs, sabotaging Attack Dogs, and compliant Flip-Flopper Sell-Outs-- so aquiver and self-absorbed these folks were about seeing their blog ramblings (and their pictures) in the "newspaper." In one smooth move, all local blogosphere dissent against The Morning Call "newspaper" was stopped cold, and the "newspaper" had all the puppy-oriented, recipe, and NeoCon-Pandering blog content it could edit-at-will and publish ... for FREE. "Valley Blogosphere" was a "win-win" situation for the self-interested "players" and a loyally cooperative Group Muzzle against "unsanctioned" local dissent [Note: No Valley Blogosphere-Affiliated bloggers voiced a peep of disapproval (or even questions) when this blog was hacked into and had comments deleted from an exposé blog post on DA Jim Martin on 4/30/09, now that's aquiver lapdog loyalty]

Regarding the destination playground: And I will KEEP repeating myself. There are plenty of playgrounds and sprayparks for inner city kids to walk to. Central Elementary just got a new playground because a teacher there raised a lot of money. The only playground for west end kids is Muhlenberg Elementary, and the equipment is very old and unsafe, not handicap acessible. Every mom I have spoken with has said that she is looking forward to the new playground. I have not met a mom opposed to it. It will bring people together, benefit kids in so many ways. The Cedar Beach area is already heavily used by families, so it makes sense to build it there. Allentown has an abundance of peaceful park settings. It's not like they are putting the thing at Trexler Park. And it will be a place to go for free fun and exercise. I spend A LOT of time at playgrounds, pretty much everyday, and I am PRO playground. I am pro nature hiking too. Most families do both. I'm so sick of the negativity, whining, and ridiulous assumptions being made about the playground and the people who will make use of it. Go suck an egg Mr.Crankypants from South WHITE Township.

"Go suck an egg Mr. Crankypants from South WHITE Township."

Well-said honeykins, and readers, to be clear, Mrs. Dottie is referring to embittered, vendetta-driven, 2005 Allentown Mayoral election loser Mike "Gladys Kravitz" ("3%") Molovinsky who is konstantly kvetching about something/anything having to do w/ Allentown ... from the cushy comfort of his estate in South Whitehall Township.

A discrimination lawsuit has been filed against the Philly pool.

The defense of the club officials is that there were too many children in the pool. But they *canceled the memberships* of the minority children after their first visit. All that because of overcrowding one afternoon in a pool?

And now the club says the kids can come back. If I were one of the minority kids, I wouldn't want to go back.

Bill Villa said...

Sorry for being slow on the "publish" trigger here, anon 5:12, thank you for the good info, you too, anon 3:41, LVS says thanks.

Anonymous said...

The opposition to the playground at Cedar Beach is really about racism, not preservation of the parks. They wanna keep the minority kids who they assume are "unsupervised and neglected" outta the "peaceful" west end of Allentown. That's called segregation.

Boy this blog is boring unless I post comments...should I start again or would you rather I not?

Sure. Feel free to comment. And maybe we'll even publish 'em. Or, maybe not. Just don't delete any comments posted by others, 'k? That's where we draw the line and initiate criminal investigations.

Exactly. And Mike Molovinsky and Scott Armstrong are leading the charge, w/ or w/ out the white hoods.

Readers, Morning Call "Valley Blogosphere" and "Blogger Tuesday" consultant/liaison and Nazareth PA hate blogger Bernie O'Hare is co-creator of The Morning Call-Approved "Troll Parade" blog. At this custom hate blog, O'Hare distorts the truth to serve his agenda of currying favor w/ The Morning Call and DA Jim Martin. To this end, O'Hare taunts and provokes the grieving Villa family (e.g., O'Hare publicly threatens us at his "Troll Parade" blog, twice, that he will sabotage and ruin our recently resolved civil litigation regarding our daughter Sheena's wrongful death) and O'Hare "proudly" publishes vile comments defiling our deceased daughter and former Nazareth PA dance teacher Sheena Villa in a vain attempt to intimidate us into shutting up about DA Jim Martin and The Morning Call. And him. It should be noted that O'Hare is a disgraced ex-lawyer who is barred from practicing law because of dishonest behavior and damaging lying so outrageous ... O'Hare never applied for reinstatement because he knows they'd never reinstate him. But please, if you're easily duped, you go right ahead and believe every word O'Hare says ...

FLAGRANT PHONINESS DEPARTMENT

Re: Mike Molovinsky & Bernie O'Hare

If anyone ever doubted that Bernie O'Hare posts anonymously, please check out the 5, um, "conversation starter" comments that start w/ "The Banker" (wink wink) at 8:48am, July 16 ... and pls. keep in mind that no comments had appeared here for 2 days, and then, like magic (wink wink) 5 comments appear, and they are spaced just a minute or two apart from each other (hmm) what are the odds ...

FLAGRANT PHONINESS

Yeah "good dialogue" my foot. Like in your previous post here where he demanded a correction (?) when none was necessitated? This guy's a troublemaker, and a narcissist, pure and simple. He and his droogies are obviously going nutz that you don't comment at their blogs anymore where they can edit you and block you via disabling comments and twist what you say, so they troll here instead trying to highjack threads and divert everyone's attention away from the "newspaper" and Jim Martin. To Whom It May Concern

I lost what little "respect" I had for Bernie O'Hare when he joined "Valley Blogosphere" at the Morning Call and flip-flopped from writing blog posts rightfully critical of The Morning Call such as this post and this post and started trying to get us to believe crap such as this. Whatever "credibility" he had had in my book went "poof" right then and there. Since then, O'Hare has revealed himself to be comprehensively pusillanimous to the point where he resorts to clandestine criminal activity in an effort to control the output, and the significant influence, of this terrific blog, Lehigh Valley Somebody. All I can say is keep up the excellent work and that I am standing (figuratively if not literally) shoulder to shoulder w/ you.

Bill Villa said...

Thank you for your kind words, anon 9:41.

O'Hare is adept at duping most people, w/ some notable exceptions, of course.

He had us duped, w/ blog posts such as this and this, but his true colors are revealed in "reports" such as this.

He's a bottom-feeder, and an opportunist, of the lowest order.

Keep watching. We'll be putting consequences on him where all others have either failed or not bothered-- because it's the right thing to do.
