[UpDated] John Micek is a gossip columnist with The Patriot-News (for now). But in happier times, John Micek reported on Harrisburg politico gossip for The Morning Call "newspaper." Below are verbatim email exchanges between John Micek and myself that reveal The Morning Call to be proactively (and embarrassingly) looking the other way on some blatant Jim Martin/Tom Corbett collusion designed to shut me up (it didn't work and John Micek no longer works at The Morning Call). Enjoy! BV
Email from John Micek to Bill Villa
Subject: Corbett Stuff
Date: September 8, 2010 5:00:20 PM EDT
Bill: Talked to Corbett's office today, where a spokesman flatly denies that there was any collusion between Corbett & Martin in the decision to allow Mr. Najarian to proceed with his case against you ... I'm going to file a Right-to-Know request in the morning for any communication between Corbett's office and Martin's office on this matter ... Once I see what the RTK request shakes loose, I can proceed from there ...
Email from John Micek to Bill Villa
Subject: Martin/Corbett "Right To Know" Request
Date: September 24, 2010 12:26:56 PM EDT
Bill: Heard back from AG's office yesterday. They politely declined to share the records with me, citing the criminal investigation exemption. Need to consult with bosses on what to do next.

Bill: I regret to inform you that I've come to the end of the line when it comes to pursuing this particular bit of inquiry. Unfortunately, there's nowhere to go, short of litigation, to try to get the correspondence out of the AG's office. My employers are not willing to go that route.

Subject: Your Martin/Corbett "Right To Know" Request
Date: October 12, 2010 7:22:09 PM EDT
Hi John, I'm holding in my hand the communication from DA Jim Martin to Tom Corbett's office that the AG denied your RTK request on because they don't want you to see it. I'd be happy to show it to you and your bosses. Give me a call to discuss it. FYI, I've acquired it through perfectly legal channels.
Readers, curiously, I had to phone a suddenly incommunicative John Micek to get a response to my Oct 12 email. I thought John would be highly interested in learning how and where I was able to acquire a piece of information he had been seeking but had been denied access to by State Attorney General Tom Corbett's office. Instead, and inexplicably, Micek flew off the handle and into a frothy rage at me over the telephone, screeching that he doesn't have to answer to me.
Yesterday, I regular mailed John Micek the letter from DA Jim Martin to Tom Corbett's office that he was denied access to via his Right-To-Know request. I yellow highlighted a telling passage where DA Martin added a bit more information than was required, or appropriate, in a recusal document-- i.e., it's crystal clear that DA Jim Martin is asking AG Tom Corbett's office to screw me, for him.
I'm greatly looking forward to hearing back from John Micek and his bosses on it.
UpDate: Readers, we haven't heard back from John Micek yet so we went ahead and wrote the exposé ourselves, you can read it here.
UpDate, Today: Still no word back from John Micek or his bosses at The Morning Call "newspaper." We are, nonetheless, still endeavoring diligently to acquire "feedback" on this matter from John Micek and his new bosses at the Harrisburg Patriot-News via polite (and weekly) email inquiry that only DA Jim Martin, Governor Tom Corbett, District Judge Rod Beck, and attorney (for now) Dave Najarian would interpret as "harassment." Stay tuned.

My Take...
But of course they all failed.
And you Villas prevailed. As usual.
But Jim Martin's still gotta pay.
Just sayin'.
Over & Out...
"... a [Corbett's office] spokesman flatly denies that there was any collusion between Corbett & Martin in the decision to allow Mr. Najarian to proceed with his case against you ..."
Like they'd admit it?
Bottom Line: Jim Martin should have laughed Dave Najarian's pusillanimous "criminal harassment complaint" against me off his desk.
Instead, Jimbo used his connections, and played Najarian, in an attempt to get back at me for the LaBarre sentence.
As has been noted, Martin failed again.
Bill, eager to know outcome here. In meantime, short term message crystal clear: don't vote for Tom Corbett on Tuesday.
Another terrific exposé exclusive, Villas.
So Bill, how and where DID you get that Jim Martin letter to Tom Corbett? Inquiring minds want to know (just saying!)
What an abuse of power, and a squandering of taxpayer dollars, by egomaniacs D.A. Jim Martin and A.G. Tom Corbett to arrive at this predictable verdict because of (obviously) no case.
The GOPees should be calling for Jim Martin to step down.
"abuse of power, and a squandering of taxpayer dollars"
Funny... there's never been any Morning Call followup on DA Jim Martin's Supreme Court appeal on his sex case.
Bill, is there another local (or regional/national) media outlet that might be GENUINELY interested in this Rod Beck/Jim Martin/Tom Corbett attempted case fix frame-up against you? 69 News, possibly?
Morning Call has more important stories to "investigate."
Merci for your comments and questions everybody. I'll wait until after John Micek and his bosses get back to me to answer your Qs here. I can tell you this ...
Statutes of Limitations-wise, I have until December 3, 2011 to file a civil lawsuit against attorney (for now) Dave Najarian for Malicious Prosecution and/or Abuse Of Process and call Tom Corbett and Jim Martin and Rod Beck as witnesses.
While I don't always agree with you, you're politics or tactics, somethings I've noticed as an occassional reader here include:
1. Team Martin/Morning Call/Donovan-Casey-Najarian, etc can dish it out but they can't take it (their pusillanimous).
2. The Villas dish it back much more effectively then the MC-allied Team LV Blogosphere dishes it out.
Well said.
(Thanks)
Readers, FYI, here's the cover letter (email) I sent to John Micek regarding the hard copy I mailed him on Saturday, i.e., the stuff (and, there's more) Micek was denied access to by Tom Corbett's office.

Subject Heading: Jim Martin/Tom Corbett Harassment of Bill Villa
Hey John, am popping 10 pages in the mail to you today, they include ...
* Pages 1-5, complaint docs filed by the complainer, attorney (for now) David C. Najarian, Lynn Township Supervisor.
For your convenience, I've yellow-highlighted all those items in Najarian's private criminal "harassment" complaint against me that fell apart at trial like a house of cards (i.e., everything basically) because they were either flat-out lies or equally transparent misrepresentations of the truth, and Magisterial District Judge Robert C. Halal saw that easily, albeit begrudgingly-- i.e, Judge Halal knew damn well what verdict Jim Martin was expecting ("Guilty") but didn't get.
* Page 6: the letter from DA Jim (hiccup) Martin to Tom Corbett's office that you were denied access to w/ your RTK request. Here I've yellow highlighted a telling passage where Jumbo Jimbo added a bit more information than was required or appropriate in a recusal note-- i.e., it's pretty crystal clear that Jim Martin is asking Tom Corbett's office to screw me, for him.
* Pages 7 & 8: deceptive emails from "attorney" Najarian to someone on the inside at Tom Corbett's office.
* Page 9: Approval letter from Corbett's office to Najarian "washing their hands" of their unseemly participation.
* Page 10: Docket showing the eventual verdict, "Not Guilty."
BTW, all this stuff was ... [Redacted] ... and that's how and why I have all this stuff you were denied access to.
Statutes of Limitations-wise, I have until December 3, 2011 to file a civil lawsuit against attorney (for now) Dave Najarian for Malicious Prosecution and/or Abuse Of Process and call Tom Corbett and Jim Martin [and Rod Beck] as witnesses.

Ach, and to think all Dave Najarian (and Mike Donivan) had to do was apologize but wouldn't.
Oh well.
As Pappy Glenno used to say, "We grow too soon oldte and too late schmardte once."
Villas, well done (again) a just amazing "gotcha moment," this post on Micek and Morning Call.
I just called to cancel my 50-year subscription to the Morning Call.

Hey John, well, we didn't expect Corbett's office to admit to collusion, now did we :) so I'm glad to see
you're not taking that as the "final" word here. Your right to know request should turn up (at the least)
Martin's letter to Corbett that says ... [Redacted] ... which will suggest that Martin was not really recusing himself but was rather poisoning the well. Martin could have simply said that he and I had had disagreements over the "Robert LaBarre killing my daughter Sheena" case, but instead Martin told Corbett, in so many words, that Corbett should slam me, but that he (Martin) can't have his hand directly (showing) in the slamming. Related Question: My goal is of course shaking Jim Martin loose from (and out of) his office ... so would you be okay if we did a post at LVS that announced a) you are looking into the Dave Najarian, Rod Beck, Jim Martin, Tom Corbett "connection" and b) that you filed a RTK on the morning of September 9, re: "any communication between Corbett's office and Martin's office on this matter" which I would then email DA Martin a link to, like I do on all LVS posts about him. If you'd rather I NOT do this, let me know, and I won't. Let me know ...

If you wouldn't mind, please don't post the bit about the RTK stuff. I'd prefer to keep that one close to the vest until I see what happens ... I'd like to keep that other stuff off the Web, please.

Readers ... ;D
Staffers from The Morning Call "newspaper" have been visiting LVS in droves and nearly jamming LVS's SiteMeter(R) since Sunday afternoon, including all night overnight last night, and all day today so far. Obviously, they all have an excellent nose for news.

Don't be surprised if there's no "newspaper" tomorrow ...
(haven't forgotten)
All the credit for beating Najarian-Beck-Martin-Corbett in court on 12/3/09 goes to my sharp lawyer.

Proof that Villa's word is worth its weight in gold. What a shining example of a "real man." So lacking (absent) in our blogosphere of whiners and show-offs. Any wonder why LVS is the highest rated local blog? Give me more every day.

I hope I'm wrong about this but my sense is that Mr. Micek was enaging with Mr. Vila only on the odd chance that Mr. Vila might say something documentable (eg., against DA Martin) that Mr. Micek's bosses could run back to DA Martin w/ .

Bill, any word back from John Micek and his bosses? Have they examined DA Jim Martin's "recusal" (wink wink) letter yet?
No word yet 1:05, but I'm sure they'll use "the election" today as their excuse. If I don't hear anything back from John Micek by end of day tomorrow, I'll phone him on Thursday ... I just hope he doesn't scream & screech at me again, I'm only trying to do my job here.
It would be nice if Micek and his bosses would do theirs. Just sayin'.
Let's keep it civil (no "name-calling" or personal attacks) ...

Don't expect anything any time soon, elections just ended. So now we'll have days of hearing how the Corbett/Toomey/Dent team cleaned house.
No doubt. Pandering to the right wing is the MC's business survival model ... ditto the rest of the US media ... which is why "Team GOP" cleaned Dems clocks nationwide. That and cuz Dems are "wusses," as Gov. Rendell told Rachel last night. As if we didn't already know that.
President Obama's record of achievement is stunning, especially fighting against the grain of the party of "no." He has accomplished 70% of what he promised as a candidate. But the Dems have done a dismally lousy job of taking credit for it, while the Fox/Rush-dominated media has transformed all of Obama's statesman accomplishments into impeachable offenses. And now they're "taking their country back" from the darkie. Only in America.
The Case for Obama
[Excerpt]
This president has delivered more sweeping, progressive change in 20 months than the previous two Democratic administrations did in 12 years. "When you look at what will last in history," historian Doris Kearns Goodwin tells Rolling Stone, "Obama has more notches on the presidential belt."
In fact, when the history of this administration is written, Obama's opening act is likely to be judged as more impressive than any president's — Democrat or Republican — since the mid-1960s. "If you're looking at the first-two-year legislative record," says Ornstein, "you really don't have any rivals since Lyndon Johnson — and that includes Ronald Reagan."
