Morning Call Lays 'Kid Glove' on DA Jim Martin (right) for Quadruple Homicide

For the first time since DA Jim Martin was appointed DA in 1998, The Morning Call "newspaper" has published an article that is mildly negative and soft pedal critical of DA Martin (scour the Morning Call archives as we have; you won't find anything even remotely negative or critical about their pal Jim Martin).

Only took 5 brutal murders to get their attention focused on Jim Martin's incompetence.

UpDate: Somebody other than LVS has finally stepped up to challenge DA Jim Martin: Meet Ed Koren.Visit: Ed Koren website.

Crooked and incompetent Lehigh County DA Jim Martin has not faced a political challenger at the polls since 1999.

Martin, a Republican, ran unopposed in 2003, and again in 2007.

It's high time for a change this year on election day in November 2011.

Here's why ...

THE DIRTY FACTS
ON DA JIM MARTIN

The story comes a day or so after Bill White takes the "courageous" stance in his column that the killer should never have been let out of prison (now that's going out on a limb, Billy Boy. Real hard-hitting journalism there). Hey Mr. White, think there's a follow-up column here about the DA? Will your populist outrage be directed at the DA? Probably not. We're aproaching the Allentown Fair and he needs to get into training for the eating columns. (Mr. White, when will the newspaper publish a collection of your award-winnng "eating my way through" columns?)

Very well said. Bill White is an under-achieving bum, a liar, and a total disgrace to journalism. Ditto Paul Carpenter.

On a happier note, I have a call in to Morning Call reporter Riley Yates, first commending him on today's article on Jim Martin, also inquiring if its publication was a mistake that got by the "editors" and expressing my hope that he's not being terminated, and finally volunteering to share w/ him all the dirt we have on DA (for now) Jim Martin.

"On Thursday, District Attorney James Martin confirmed his office received — and did not respond to — the [April 2006] letter when Ballard was first up for parole. A prosecutor's recommendation is one of several factors the board considers when deciding whether an offender should be freed."

--------

In April 2006, D.A. James B. Martin was busy trying to sweep another murder case under the rug.

Bill Villa said...

How bout it.

Then there's this ...

"Ballard was first let out in November 2006 after serving the minimum of a 15-to-30-year sentence after pleading guilty in 1992 to third-degree murder and other charges. He stabbed and slit the throat of Donald Richard, then fled with Richard's wallet and car to Arkansas. Police said they found Ku Klux Klan literature when they arrested Ballard."

THIRD degree murder? (in Lehigh County)

For slitting someone's throat?

Check this out ...

Right down the road in Philadelphia County, Joe Levin got third degree murder for getting behind the wheel drunk knowing he was an alcoholic binge drinker and killing someone.

BTW, at his guilty-plea hearing, my daughter Sheena's chatty killer confessed to Judge Steinberg that he knew he was an alcoholic binge drinker.

I was there and literally YELLED: LEVIN. LEVIN.

Morning Call "reporter" Manny Gamiz made believe he didn't hear me.

Ditto the "prosecutor," bailiff, and Judge Steinberg.

Hey, Bill -

Got some free time to waste?

In keeping w your reachout to MC reporter Riley Yates, send a Letter To The Editor saying this is just the latest in a series of DA Jim Martin stumbles (hic) and that you'll gladly meet w any MC reporter to present a list of other examples of poor performance for the reporter to look into.

Let's all watch them ignore your Letter To The Editor, and then you can put the whole episode in the "Bill's Not Imagining All This" evidence file.

Extra fun: Let's all keep an eye out for any other Letters To The Editor responding to this story that say anything along the lines of "this is typical sub-par performance from DA Jim Martin."

"They're actually BREAKING this story, as far as I can tell--"

Yeah. And what do we make of this?

{From MC article} "Earlier this week, WFMZ-TV reported that Martin said he learned of Ballard's release in January, after the board had already decided to let him out. The station reported Martin would have opposed Ballard's release if he had known about it beforehand."

Let's repeat that ...

The "station reported that MARTIN WOULD HAVE OPPOSED BALLARD'S RELEASE IF HE HAD KNOWN ABOUT IT BEFOREHAND."

Really?

Where did the station get this info?

Because, inadvertently or intentionally, this statement is 180 degrees from what Martin himself is quoted as admitting to in The Morning Call-- i.e., that he WAS NOTIFIED BEFOREHAND ... BUT THAT HE DIDN'T ACT ON IT.

I'm trying to find the 69 News coverage that The Morning Call claims includes this huge whopper:

"MARTIN WOULD HAVE OPPOSED BALLARD'S RELEASE IF HE HAD KNOWN ABOUT IT BEFOREHAND." -69 News, Allegedly

Bill Villa said...

Wait ... okay ... so maybe 69 News really BROKE this story (?)

And The Morning Call (not wanting to be scooped by them) has pre-empted it from them (more like "post-empted" it).

Stay tuned, we're diggin' ...

Bill Villa said...

Found it, here it is ...

Good report. And, turns out, it was DA MARTIN himself who told 69 News Reporter Bo Koltnow that he WOULD HAVE OPPOSED BALLARD'S RELEASE IF HE HAD KNOWN ABOUT IT BEFOREHAND.

Well, that's comforting, Jim.

Okay, so ... who figured out that Martin WAS NOTIFIED BEFOREHAND ... BUT THAT HE DIDN'T ACT ON IT.

69 News? Or Morning Call?

Lemme check, be right back ...

Bill Villa said...

(almost forgot)

In that clip, did'ja catch then DA (now Judge) Bob Steinberg saying how Ballard had worn gloves during his 1991 stabbing and throat slashing of Donald Richard and how "gloves" would be an indication of some pre-meditation.

Premeditated murder is murder in the first degree, no?

So ... how come this was pleaded down to THIRD degree murder?

"The station reported Martin would have opposed Ballard's release if he had known about it beforehand."

Watch the very end of Bo Koltnow's excellent report.

The Morning Call skillfully omits from their coverage mentioning that Martin himself told 69 News (i.e., Martin LIED to them) that he "WOULD HAVE OPPOSED BALLARD'S RELEASE IF HE HAD KNOWN ABOUT IT BEFOREHAND."

The LIE is contained in what DA Martin DIDN'T TELL 69 NEWS:

THAT HE WAS NOTIFIED BEFOREHAND ... BUT THAT HE DIDN'T ACT ON IT.

The Morning Call published today's "softball" take on Jim Martin's latest monumental screw-up as a preemptive measure against a hardball LVS exposé on it. You'd be surprised at how much they look over their shoulders at you. Wait, scratch that, I take that back. You shouldn't be surprised at all since you call them out on your Sitemeter dozens of times every day. 'Nuff said.

"MARTIN IS SOFT ON NUISANCE BARS"

If Jim Martin had shut down J.P. O'Malley's (which was cited by the PLCB--twice--as a nuisance bar), I know of 2 young people who died because of O'Malley's negligence who would likely be alive today.

Bill Villa said...

Yes, so do I.

Anonymous said...

Who did in fact shut down that nuisance bar?

Bill Villa said...

J.P. O'Malley's bar quietly and pusillanimously closed their doors a few weeks before our lawsuit against them came to trial.

A civil jury subsequently ruled that O'Malley's was negligent in the death of my daughter, Sheena.

O'Malley's has been out of business ever since.

The Morning Call "newspaper" boldly reported that O'Malley's was found NOT negligent by the jury. This was a lie.

The "newspaper" also quoted O'Malley's (now former) owner as saying he was relieved that "O'Malley's good name had been restored" and that it was too bad Sheena's family "would never see a dime," 2 more lies.

It took the "newspaper" a month (30 days) to bury a correction on the jury's actual ruling deep in the "newspaper" where no one would see it.

Bill Villa said...

DA Jim Martin routinely puts the safety of the citizens of Lehigh County at risk ... every time there's a DUI homicide and Martin takes his sweet old bar stool lingering time getting around to prosecuting it.

Q. Did you know that these DUI killers DO NOT HAVE THEIR DRIVER'S LICENSES REVOKED UNTIL AFTER THEY GET OUT OF JAIL (if Martin sends them to jail). Yep. That's right.

So Gregory Williams who crashed into a house hundreds of feet off Route 22 while killing Shaun Buenzly ... and Sheena's killer who crashed into a tree on 35MPH-zoned Parkway Boulevard at a police-calculated minimum speed of 85MPH were both FREE TO KEEP DRIVING as DA Jim Martin took up to 2 YEARS (in the Williams case) to get Williams off the road and into jail.

We believe the citizens of Lehigh County deserve much faster service and better protection from its next (new) DA.

Im still trying to figure out if this is a PR stunt by Jimbo - you know put the fire out before it even starts. Its too bad no local political party would ever think about using this (and the veritable smorgasbord of other evidence) as campaign fodder against Ol' Hiccup in the upcoming 2011 DA "race" (literally laughing out loud as I typed that word). Beings that its been reported by the local "Pravda" Im almost certain there is a whole bunch of shit the writers have neglected to bring to light. Love this town...LOVE IT!

Bill Villa said...

"AB," my prediction is: watch The Morning Callers frame this issue a la: my oh my, what a stand-up guy this Jim (hiccup) Martin is ... "The Buck Stops Here" ... W-O-W ... isn't that refreshing ... he made a mistake but he's taking full responsibility for it. And that's what we want in a DA. That and all them DUI Free Passes he hands out 'round the "newspaper" (just sayin').

I'm w/ ya though ... it's still a risky maneuver shedding ANY light on this issue (even the "lite" they applied) because some percentage of Morning Call readers will be reminded of what a zero Jim Martin is.

Off the record (wink wink), I'm actually hearing from members of the Lehigh County Democratic Party lately (just this morning, in fact), so don't count them out of the race for a new DA in Lehigh County. But yeah, I'm with ya to in that they'll need to use brass knuckles and baseball bats on Jumbo Jimbo (figuratively speaking of course) to beat him to a pulp (at the ballot box) in 2011.

IF he runs, that is.

I may be the only person in Lehigh County who knows this, having experienced it first-hand, but don't forget Jim Martin is a total pussy. Confront him (as I do whenever I feel like it) and he wets his frilly panties and runs for the hills whimpering like he did at Lehigh Country Club recently when he spotted me there. You wouldn't think an elephant as big as Jimbo could get in his smashed up car and speed away that fast and that recklessly and illegally.

When the Dems put up a candidate against him, Jim will probably retire (shaking) or run for judge and lose.

Is how I see it.
